MDI Communications was founded in 2015 in Moorhead, Minnesota by Michael Turnquist, following more than two decades of experience across CATV, satellite, security, IT support, and electrical engineering.
Prior to launching the company, Michael worked as an engineering technician supporting commercial and industrial projects, developing plans, drawings, and managing projects alongside electrical engineers.
During that time, he regularly encountered low-voltage and communications systems that fell short of accepted standards and best practices. Combined with prior hands-on experience in voice, video, and data systems, this highlighted a clear need for higher-quality, more disciplined execution in the industry.
What began as small, hands-on projects for local clients grew steadily, and through that work Michael partnered with Michael Geisen, who shared the same commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and doing work the right way. As demand increased, MDI Communications evolved into a full-time operation, and in 2019 the company shifted its focus entirely to the communications and low-voltage field.
The company continued to grow organically, and in 2023 MDI Communications established its current office in South Fargo, North Dakota. Today, the company is a stable, recognized regional provider offering integrated low-voltage and structured cabling solutions, supported by a growing team and an expanding range of services.
MDI Communications is led by experienced, credentialed professionals, including BICSI registered technicians and RCDD leadership, licensed power-limited technicians, and registered technology contractors. The company remains focused on advancing with the industry while maintaining the standards, integrity, and quality that have guided it from the beginning.
